Story From The Novel

“Th-they all say I’ve become shameless… that I’m spreading immorality,” she sobbed, her voice trembling. Deep lines appeared on Sikandar’s forehead. He had been married to this girl since childhood—his uncle’s daughter. The marriage had been arranged because of their family wealth, but Sikandar had never accepted it. He had left for America, married another woman there, and built a life of his own. Eighteen years later, he returned to Pakistan intending to divorce the wife he had almost forgotten. But everything changed the moment he witnessed the cruelty inflicted upon her. She had been treated worse than a servant, confined inside the house for eighteen long years, never even allowed to step outside. Sikandar had changed his decision and taken her away as his wife, but suddenly everyone had objections. “Who dared to say such nonsense? You are my wife, and…” Sikandar began, but she covered her face with both hands and broke down even harder.

“Who is that?” Sikandar Raza asked as he watched a girl pass before him, her face hidden beneath a green dupatta. “You don’t recognize her? Your wife, Mahrosh,” Bibi Jaan replied. Sikandar stared at her in surprise. “My wife?” he murmured, as though struggling to recall something from a distant past. It had been fifteen years since he had returned, and the memory of that forgotten relationship had almost vanished. “Oh… so this story hasn’t ended yet,” he said calmly. “I even told Baba Jaan to end this relationship. Somehow, I never remembered it afterward, and he never mentioned whether the divorce had actually taken place.” Bibi Jaan looked at him with disappointment. “Don’t you feel even a little pity for her?” Sikandar frowned. “Is she crippled or helpless that I should pity her? She has her own life, and I have mine. Why should I keep her tied to me? The first thing I’ll do now is end this marriage.”

Bibi Jaan shook her head sadly. “Your father will never agree. He won’t disgrace his brother’s daughter.” Sikandar gave her a bitter look. “I expected the truth from you, Bibi Jaan. He doesn’t love his niece—he loves the wealth she represents. That’s the only reason he has kept her tied to this family.” Bibi Jaan grew annoyed. “Enough. They only want what they believe is best for you. An enormous inheritance has fallen into your name without you lifting a finger, and you still hold a grudge against them?” She stepped down from the bed, knowing she could never tolerate anyone speaking against her husband, something Sikandar knew all too well. “Rest now. I’ll have tea made for you. You’ve traveled such a long way.” Before Sikandar could answer, a young boy approached him. “Chachu, what did you bring for us?” It was Ali, his elder brother’s twelve-year-old son, who had just returned from tuition. Sikandar smiled and affectionately ruffled his hair. “There’s plenty of stuff. But tell me, where are your older brothers and sisters?” He had arrived without informing anyone, so only Bibi Jaan and the women of the household had been home. The moment he arrived, Bibi Jaan had asked the elder daughter-in-law to call everyone. Now, the entire family would be arriving within minutes.Download Novel By Clicking Download Button Below
