''Abba! Let me tell you one thing. Hazrat Umar bin Khattab asked his son Abdullah to divorce his wife. Ibn Umar did not do this. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to know about this, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told Ibn Umar to divorce his wife. Thus, Abdullah bin Umar respected his father's words and divorced his wife." She stopped for a moment. Sulaiman Sahib was leaning on the seat, spinning a pan in one hand, listening to him attentively.

Then it happened that after a long time a person came to Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (may God have mercy on him) and said to him that my father wants me to divorce my wife. Imam Ahmad said, "Do not do this at all." In response, this person narrated the incident that his son had divorced his wife on the request of Umar bin Al-Khattab. Then why shouldn't I? Abba...! Do you know what Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal said to this person?

"What?" He said helplessly. Haya smiled lightly.

"They said, Is your father like Umar?"

There was a moment of silence in the office. Only the ticking of the clock hands could be heard.

’’دیکھو! مجھے تمہارے اس برقعے وغیرہ سے کوئی مسئلہ نہیں ہے، مگر اس کی وجہ سے تم نے اپنے تایا اور اماں کو بہت ناراض کیا ہے۔ تمہیں چاہیے تھا کہ تم ان کی بات کا احترام کرتیں۔ بڑوں کا حکم ماننا فرض ہوتا ہے۔‘‘ وہ چند لمحے سوچتی نگاہوں سے انہیں دیکھتی رہی، پھر کہنے لگی۔

’’ابا! آپ کو ایک بات بتاؤں۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بن خطاب نے اپنے بیٹے عبداللہ سے کہا تھا کہ وہ اپنی بیوی کو طلاق دے دیں۔ ابن عمرؓ نے ایسا نہیں کیا۔ جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو اس بات کا علم ہوا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ابن عمرؓ سے فرمایا کہ بیوی کو طلاق دے دو۔ یوں عبداللہ بن عمرؓ نے اپنے والد کی بات کا احترام کرتے ہوئے بیوی کو طلاق دے دی۔‘‘ وہ لحظے بھر کو رکی۔ سلیمان صاحب سیٹ سے ٹیک لگائے، ایک ہاتھ میں پین گھماتے غور سے اسے سُن رہے تھے۔

’’پھر ہوا یہ کہ عرصے بعد ایک شخص امام احمد بن حنبل رحمۃ اللہ علیہ کے پاس آیا اور ان سے کہا کہ میرا باپ چاہتا ہے، میں اپنی بیوی کوطلاق دے دوں۔ امام احمد  نے کہا کہ ایسا ہرگز مت کرنا۔ اس شخص نے جواب میں یہ واقعہ بیان کیا کہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ بن خطاب کے کہنے پر ان کے بیٹے نے تو اپنی بیوی کو طلاق دے دی تھی۔ پھر مجھے کیوں ایسا نہیں کرنا چاہیے؟ ابا۔۔۔! آپ جانتے ہیں اس پہ امام احمد بن حنبل  نے اس شخص سے کیا کہا؟‘‘

’’کیا۔‘‘ وہ بے اختیار بولے۔ حیا ہلکے سے مسکرائی۔

’’انہوں نے کہا، کیا تمہارا باپ عمر جیسا ہے؟‘‘

آفس میں ایک دم خاموشی چھا گئی۔ صرف گھڑی کی سوئیوں کی ٹک ٹک سنائی دے رہی تھی۔
