"Listen to me," she was walking briskly in the pouring rain when Dayan grabbed her arm and turned her towards him.
They were both soaked from head to toe. The rain was so heavy that they were having difficulty opening their eyes. Dayan held her hand and brought her a few steps away, under a tree.
"Where were you going?" She let go of his hand and looked straight into his eyes.
"Away from you."
"Do you think you can get away from me?"
"Yes," she said pointedly, looking towards the road in front.
"You are very cruel. You always find new ways to hurt me," he was saying while laughing, but even a blind person could see the pain in his eyes.
She did not have the courage to look him in the eye and speak.
"Why are you doing all this? Why are you making yourself and me suffer?" He turned her face towards him with a jerk and held her by the arms.
"Why are you throwing me once again into the fire from which it took me ten years to get out. Forgive me, I don't have the courage to endure more pain." He was speaking in a state of intense intimacy, but the other person stood indifferent.
"You think that life has given all the pain only to you. No... not birth. I have tasted death while alive. I have felt the darkness and suffocation of the grave. But what do you know what pain is?"
He was just speaking when she jerked her hands away from his arms and screamed.
"Stop, for God's sake, stop crying about your victimhood. You don't feel my pain. I saw my father die before my eyes when I was seven years old. You know how much it hurts when you get shot. Blood flows like a waterfall. With these hands," he held out his hands to her, "I made an impossible attempt to stop the blood by placing these hands on my father's wound. But his blood continued to flow and in a few minutes his body took its final blow and..." His voice was getting fainter and fainter. Due to the drizzle of rain, he could only see her moving lips.
He wanted to hold her hand, but she mumbled something and took two steps back and turned and started running.
She was running, running at full speed.
He wanted to follow her, but his own legs were numb.
One night came ten years ago and one night was today when Dayan Ghazi felt his life was ending.
And the person who brought both these nights into his life was the same person...Arsh Jahangir
